For my 4th and 5th grade friends, hello! I have some videos for you today that I think will be a good start on our Conversational Solfege units. We have already done Unit 1 and 2 in 4th and 5th grades and we had started or worked our way mostly through Unit 3. Since we are all at home now, we will go back and review Unit 1 and work our way up through Unit 4. At each step, check your work for accuracy and if you're not sure whether you've got it, you can always send me a video of your progress here: https://forms.gle/6ugT1QWat2PKK9vC9 To start, here is a video explaining Du and Du-de! Now that you know why we use this system, how does it compare to a counting system your parents or someone else in your house used when they were learning to count rhythms? Which system do they prefer and why? Now that you've got that in your brain, here's a Mrs. Sarris video for Du and Du-de!

Have you ever wondered about the best ways to take care of your recorder? There are several things you can do to keep your recorder clean, healthy and happy.
Our 4th grade students are just receiving recorders this week and next and for those of you too excited to wait, here are a few videos to get you started!
Which hand goes where on my recorder? www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yimwULeIPY How do I make sound on my recorder? www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL3D5kwlj98 Okay I'm ready to play a song! www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWpkzi38qlM The red string song (first song) that we'll learn is linked above (Closet Key). Stay tuned for the orange string and all the rest! Our second grade classes have been studying magnetic fields and the magic (really, science) of the theremin in their science classes in the last few weeks and we recently tried out a virtual theremin in class. See the link below to try it out for yourself!
